A hex sign is a form of folk art within the tradition of Powwow, the magic practiced by German immigrants in Pennsylvania. It is a sign usually hung on the side of a house or a barn designed to protect its inhabitants. Here, I've copied a classic design known as the Distelfink, or thistle-finch, a sign for good fortune.
